When your friends invite you to a gathering called “Burgoo Fest” but the only dish you know how to contribute is dessert, this is what we end up with. Chocolate 3-layer cake with dark black cocoa buttercream icing, meat and veggies from vanilla buttercream, airbrushed modeling chocolate, and a butterscotch ganache glaze all make for a fairly convincing pot of burgoo.
Kickass Doctor. Amazing Mother. Talented Baker. Jilted Wife. I bake cakes as a hobby for the people I love(d!)… Maybe some day I'll open that bakery, but until then I won't quit my day job. For now, baking cakes as gifts for family and friends will have to suffice.
I take pride in baking homemade creations that not only look beautiful, but also use the best ingredients in order to achieve an uncommonly good close-your-eyes-and-smile flavor and texture with every recipe.
Baking started as a hobby during my teenage years. My aunt had been a baker for many years prior and taught me the basics and insider secrets of baking, decorating and building cakes. Over the next several years baking was simply a hobby used as a creative outlet while medical school, medical residency and starting my primary career as a physician kept me busy. Since then baking has become even more of a passion. I spend my free time baking cakes to celebrate the birthdays, babies, weddings, anniversaries and major life events of all my closest family, friends, physician colleagues, nursing and medical office staff, and all their loved ones. I've baked cakes for my coworkers, friends, parents, nieces, nephews, and neighbors, I even made my own wedding cake and may soon be planning my very first divorce cake... but the most exciting cakes I've done have been for my son, who is almost NINE years old!! Everyone has finally convinced me it is time to branch out and share my love and knack for decorating cakes with everyone around us.
This website is mostly intended to be a way for me to share my love of baking with family and friends, and to document my adventures in baking and the progression of my skills through the years. I hope to expand my baking and perhaps one day may even do the official home baker business thing. For now I’m just feeling things out, learning all of the legal and logistical aspects of starting a home bakery in our state and exploring the local market and demand for what I do.
